Heart of a Dreamer

"It goes on and ever on even when you've reached your goal, as long as your dream keeps on living in your heart."


So I started this yesterday at some point and actually stayed up until like 7 in the morning working on it. With the classic "I'll only do this one thing more and then I'm going to bed", and then I slowly turned into Uncle.
Don't know how long exactly it took, but definitely over 10 hours.

I got the idea for this image only a couple days ago, and am quite glad I got my lazy ass to actually draw it out. And surprisingly enough it turned out pretty close to what I envisioned. The lineart is not 100% what I had in mind, but close enough.
Tried a lot of things, starting with colored lineart, and messing with the shading as well. I am quite pleased with the shading especially the way it looks on the tail.

Ok, technical part out the way. This is a character I got a few months back, it's a species belonging to one of my favorite artists and when I saw the little guy here I just had to get him. Mind you I rarely adopt designs, even less buy, but this little guy was special and my mate convinced me I should treat myself. It was close to my birthday back then too, so putting all reasons together it was worth it.

I've been working on his story and personality since I got him, as I'm really trying to put effort into everything. So far I'm actually pretty satisfied with both, there's mostly just details to figure out. Also a name, I've still not managed to really come up with a name (accepting suggestions), though since yesterday I'm considering Icarus/Ikarus as a possible nickname.
He's a dreamer, that's the core essence of him, though as all dreamers eventually he had to go through challenges in his life. He was the kind who believed everything would stay the same, he could be happy and play with his friends forever. But then growing up happened, though mostly for them due to his species' longevity. He was forced to face reality while he still tried to cling on to his childhood. Things went bad and he ended up jumping to a different dimension, then for a while he greatly suffered from depression and pretty much gave up on being a dreamer, seeing no point in it anymore. It was then the gain but mostly the loss of a new friend which got him back to his feet. It motivated him to stay true to himself, and if life really is so dark and bland for some, he'll try to make it better, bring them at least a bit of joy with the nature of a dreamer.
And that's just personality in a nutshell, I'm not gonna write everything down here, I'll leave the rest for when I actually make a ref.

I think that's all, going to be a long ass AN again, but eh. The little guy deserves it. XD
